November 1st is National Family Literacy Day

One in four children struggle with reading and learning due to vision issues. Over 60% of "problem learners" may have an undiagnosed vision problem.  Correcting vision problems can lead to improved scores, with one study showing a 13% improvement in reading scores after vision correction. Standard school vision screenings, like Snellen eye charts, may only detect 20-30% of vision problems that can affect learning. Visual development eye exams, like the exams at Ithaca Eye Care, are crucial for identifying issues beyond simple visual acuity, as "20/20" vision is only one of many visual skills needed for successful reading.

August is Children’s Eye Health and Safety Month

Have you had your child’s eyes examined?

Most of the time schools only screen for distance acuity, but so many children struggle to see up close.  This, of course, affects their ability to read and write.  In addition, some children develop visual processing disorders that are due to their brain/eye connection.  These can mimic dyslexia and even ADHD and they definitely affect a child’s ability to learn.  A developmental optometrist like Dr. Boscia can test for these and so much more.  Why not schedule a thorough eye exam for your child this  month?

You can never "Bee" too safe!

July is National Anti-Boredom Month

Did your child find school boring?

Did they disengage in the classroom?

Act out?

Perhaps the class clown?

IT COULD BE THEIR EYES!!!

Visual processing disorders make reading and writing a challenge, so many kids choose to avoid school work.  Even homework can  become a battle.  But this is not because your child does not have the ability to read.

It may be their brain-eye connection.

Vision Therapy can help!  Call us today 607-257-1500 for a full eye exam with a developmental optometrist and get them ready for a better year in school.

June is Child Vision Awareness Month

Many children live with vision problems without even realizing it. They assume their blurry view of the world is normal but poor vision can silently hinder a child’s academic performance, confidence, and social development. They may be struggling to read the board in class, missing out on games during recess, or failing to recognize friends from a distance. In addition to eyesight, they may also be struggling with a Visual Processing Disorder which can make reading, writing and sports harder.

Most eye doctors will address an eyesight issue without looking beyond. This June, you can help change that by having your child's vision evaluated by a licensed practioner who has expertise in visual development. There is much more to vision than meets to eye.

Call us today to have  your child’s vision thoroughly evaluated.

May is “Get Caught Reading” Month

Did you know that Vision Therapy can improve reading skills?

It helps to address visual problems that interfere with reading fluency and comprehension.

It improves the  ability to track words and lines accurately, reducing issues such as skipping lines or omitting words.

It strengthens the Brain-Eye connections necessary to keep a child’s eyes fixed on the text.

It improves the coordination between the eyes, ensuring that they work as a cohesive team while reading.

It helps children learn to move their eyes smoothly from letter-to-letter or word-to-word while reading.

It helps children change focus from near to far which is needed for copying from the board at school.

It helps the eyes learn to focus together, which is necessary for reading fluency.

It improves comprehension by reducing the time spent moving the eyes, allowing more time spent understanding what is being read.

It helps a child read faster and more smoothly.

It can help improve visual skills which will help to make handwriting more legible.

“Getting Caught Reading” will be a breeze!
