What is Vision Therapy?
Vision Therapy
At Ithaca Eye Care, we understand the complexity of the visual process. Some eye conditions cannot be adequately treated with glasses and/or contacts alone and are best resolved through a vision therapy program.
Through vision therapy, we work with children and adults who have vision problems that interfere with their ability to read, learn, comprehend or even pay attention.
Vision therapy is a progressive series of procedures individualized to fit the needs of each patient. It is conducted under optometrist supervision with 30-60 minute sessions offered once or twice per week. These treatments are designed to develop or improve fundamental visual skills and abilities, enhance visual comfort and efficiency, and strengthen processing and interpretation of visual information.
Children and adults can improve performance in the following areas:
-
Learning-related vision problems that may impair reading, writing, and other tasks
-
Poor ocular coordination that can limit abilities in reading, sports, and depth perception
-
Convergence insufficiency, a common near vision disorder
-
Lazy eye, double vision, or eye turn
-
Visual rehabilitation for special needs, such as traumatic brain injury, brain damage, head injury, developmental delays, visual perceptual deficits, attention deficit disorder, and autism spectrum disorders
-
Sports vision Improvement, including enhanced eye coordination, visual reaction time, eye focusing and tracking, all of which are vital to athletic success. Our vision therapy can help you see faster and react better.
